Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange info between a hosting server and a client. Given that the data exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of managing a web hosting account. The commands which may be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the alternatives are limited since you simply won't have root access to the hosting server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They're all actions which are executed in the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to install server-side software or to restart the machine or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like OS, there are a number of apps for other OSs, which you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting

SSH access is provided with all cloud website hosting plans that we offer you. With some of them, it is provided as standard, while with others it's an optional upgrade you can include with just a few mouse clicks in your hosting CP. You can get SSH access from the section dedicated to it where you can also find the information you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to choose the password that you shall use and, if needed, you'll be able to change it with several mouse clicks from the same place. All of the commands that could be used with our shared plans are listed within a help article together with relevant examples. If the SSH access function is permitted for your account, you shall also be able to upload files using your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to get SSH access to it with only a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, supplied with all accounts. If your package doesn't support this function by default, you shall be able to add it without difficulty through the Upgrades menu. When you go to the SSH section, you will find the info which you need to connect to the server through a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated anytime, if necessary. These login credentials are also required if you want to upload files via a secure connection and you want to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we offer you. A comprehensive list of the commands that you can perform shall offer you a better idea of what tasks you could perform inside your account and each one is accompanied by a couple of instances of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

If you order a new VPS server from us, it shall offer full root access and you'll be able to connect to the server and to handle everything using an SSH console. The function comes by default with all plans, so you will not have to activate or upgrade anything. Your hosting server will be set up immediately after you get it and the instant you get the Welcome email with the login details, you may connect using the server’s main IP address and begin working. Because the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts within the physical machine, there'll be no restrictions regarding the commands which you can use. You shall have full root access, so that you may install and run any app that can work on a Linux web server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the whole machine or any software operating on it.
